You know the best part about being a grandparent????? Everything.

Check out the face. Ain't she purdy?!!!!!! Got a little big headed when folks wanted photos. Muertos superstar.

Today GK, sweet man and I man a short trip to Sandia Casino just north of ABQ to attend the Los Muertos art show. I love the fact that this holiday is now a bigger deal and that more and more folks are getting interested in Dia de los Muertos. As with any gathering of arts and crafts people we had the wonderful, the good, the bad and the why. After years of being my sidekicks at these events both GK and SM went scouting for the best and the worst of show. It's our way of paying homage to the craft goddess who is a bitch and has quite a since of humor.

This particular show is relatively new and included not just Muertos but also SW and Woo Woo as well as community activism opportunities. Muertos = anything with skulls, skeletons, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Devil, papel picado, shrines, etc. SouthWest = Native American, jewelry, pottery, weavings, paintings etc. Woo Woo = healing stones, candles, mandalas, incense, readings etc. It was a trippy kinda show. It was great. We all had our favs for best and worst in show and I bought some papel picado both in plastic for my front patio and paper for inside for my Day of the Dead altar that I set up. And of course I had to have a new Los Novios (bride and groom). This one has a scene where the bride and groom are just about to cut the wedding cake that has little skeletons on the top. Too Cute. You know the cat I spoke of yesterday also customizes altars, sacreligious twit, thus the reason I had to buy new papel picado because last year....well it's too sad to go into details.

And GK got her face painted. There were kids and adults walking around like a cross between Ed Hardy and the Muertos squad had gotten ahold of them. Too cute, too wonderful. Met a silk painting friend there who is amazing and has gotten bitten by the Muertos bug too. Check her out at

Anyway back to the grandchildren thing.....Joe and I have had opportunity to do lots of these types of things but always found a reason not to go or postpone it until next time, but when you have a 9 year old social secretary, nothing gets put off. She is like a non bending, club wielding maniac when it comes to us getting out and doing. This morning she announces at half past eight that we have 30 minutes to get ourselves to the car because the "deadies" are waiting to be seen. I'm wondering do deadies have teddies and if so what would you call them?

Since she got here in June I have lost 16 pounds. This little bugger will thin me out, as she puts it, (makes me feel like a veggie plot) before next summer so I can go water skiing. I have no idea where this came from but I can tell you that's the way it is cuz she said so. Do you think you can use a cane on water skiis?

  1. That's the way they keep us young!!! Sounds like you all had a great time! Super.

  2. Sounds like you are one family type woman and that is a good thing. I like your blog and I will be back to back track on some of your posts. Right now though, I just finished making us, (me and my esposo) a salad and we ate it so now I'll go clean the kitchen and hopefully clean my studio. I'm going to be adding french doors to the studio so I am looking forward to that. I am self-taught "artisit" in my own right and just do it because I love to do it. I don't sell or have showings. It is just a hobby I love. I have been giving it some thought though, to open an Etsy shop and see what comes of that. Thanks for stopping by my blog and I will indeed add you as one of my favorites, I hope you add me too. :D Take care and have a great week and your grandchild is adorable.

I love to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
