CELEBRATE OZ - aLtEReD oZ 2013

Welcome to Celebrate Oz.

The theme this year is aLtEReD oZ.

I am very pleased to again host this year's event because there seems to be a shift of mood. We've had a great time the last two years, don't misunderstand but there is almost an electricity to the plans and chats that I have had with the participants this year. Perhaps the premiere of the movie Oz the Great and Powerful sparked something but I have a feeling that it is the juxtaposition of the Oz's we all know and love when it comes to aLtEReD views that has cast this magick spell..............

I am proud to introduce you to a new land in Oz. It is the Land of the dOnkZ.

The inhabitants of this land are quite Donkey and magnificent.

The Wickedy Witch and her flying monkey have set a new record for evility here in the Land of dOnkZ. She has taken all the peppermints, paco treats and watermelon and made off with them to her paddock. Her evil plan is to keep it all for herself and her monkey donkey.

Just as WW secures her ill gotten gains, a lovely Dorothy and her entourage, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow come along the Yellow Brick Trail past the paddock. They ask the monkey if he knows of any place they might stay the night and rest up. They explain they are on the way to meet with a great and powerful Wizard who is going to help them get back home from the middle of nowhere to where they want to be. WW sees this as her chance to go about doing her evil trickery and stays in the background to eavesdrop on the group.

The monkey tells them to beat it. When the group starts to bray their discontent and kick up their heels, a lovely vision appears in front of them on the Yellow Brick Trail. The Good Witch Glinda appears in a pink bubble and tells them not to worry, she has a place for them to rest and will give them the skinny on the Wizard.

As they make their way to Glinda's place, they pass by a cute trio of "little" donks who are singing a happy little ditty about .....all you have to do is bray in the morning and all of your wishes will come true. Glinda said they had the right idea alright...a good morning bray will help every time.

And so the foursome spends the night in Glinda's corral and wake with a new found urge to meet this mysterious Wizard.

When they reach the gate of the Palace of dOnkZ, they are greeted by a very no nonsense herd master gatekeeper who tells them that nobody sees the Great and Powerful Oz, not nobody, not no how. A little dejected they huddle up to make a plan.

But WW flies in and says she has the answer for them. They fool WW by letting her believe they think she is like Glinda and is only looking out for their well being. But nobody is going to get anything past Dorothy, after all she is a gaited donk and can manage just about any situation with her non plussed attitude. So they all follow WW. She leads them around to the other side of the Palace of dOnkZ. This is where WW and the monkey donkey are the ones who are surprised.

This is the best part of all reader, Glinda and Dorothy had put their heads together the night before as they shared some nachos and an adult beverage and made a plan. While WW and her monkey donkey were busy tracking the foursome to the gates of dOnkZ and leading them astray, the "little" ones and Glinda herded up all the peppermints, paco treats and of course the yummy watermelon and set up a party for all the dOnkZ in the land. They even included WW and her monkey donkey......after all they are just one big herd, right? Celebrate in Oz donkeys.

Dear reader, if you haven't followed any of this nonsense posting, don't be alarmed or confused. If you don't know that yours truly is a donkeyaphile as well as a true blue Ozian devotee then you do now. And if you aren't a regular follower then I have to tell you that the story is based on the real life sharing of nachos and adult beverages of some of the nicest people who are owned by their donkeys I know. I must thank Linda Carson from 7MSN Ranch and Don y Justina from Morning Bray Farm for letting me use their beloved equines photos to make this story. Without the loving friendship of these folks I would never have even imagined a Land of the dOnkZ or found out that donkeys love them some watermelon.

The photos have been incorporated in this thrift store find. I altered a Gilbert and Sullivan song book. I covered the book with tissue paper, painted, sanded and sealed the cover. Folded 400 pages to make the staging for the altered pictures of the original Oz characters. Melded the donkey and characters into an image, embellished the photos and settled them into the book. The book is about 18" wide 12" tall and sits at 7" deep.
This altered book is to be auctioned off to help raise funds for Lavender Dreams Farm an animal rescue (donkeys and more) run by Marci and David. They will have the auction on their site if you are interested in bidding on this piece. Here is the link to the guest post by Marci with contact information. http://www.facebook.com/donkeyrescuer

Now to the giveaway prizes for Celebrate Oz 2013. I have made a pink Glinda medallion (the picture doesn't really show the delicate pink sparkle tulle surrounding the medallion) and a black Wickedy medallion. The melded photos of WW and Glinda are not attached as of yet because........

I promised to immortalize two of you as the deliciously wicked one and the demur and fabulous goodie one. I will draw two names, one for each of the medallions. If you are chosen then you will need to email me your picture (it can be of yourself, your child, your pet, whomever) and I will meld that photo into either goodie or baddie and send it to you.

So please leave a comment on this blog with contact information, an email addy if you are a no reply commenter, so that I might get back with you and you will be included in the drawing. All participants names will be entered once for being a participant and all participants can also comment to get another chance.  I will draw and announce the winners next Friday the 23rd.
.
Special thanks to all of you who added so much to this 3rd annual Celebrate Oz. I am forever in your debt because you make this so much fun. So until next year, and over the rainbow.....Smooches and Squoozes, Oma Linda
