Jamie's first 48 hours..............

Jameson has only been at our home for a little over 48 hours and he is proving to be "the perfect dog" for the Cuckoo family. He responds to each of us and particularly loves the activity of the grands.

We are all calling him Jamie now. Jameson is a great name for a butler, a whiskey or a character in a steampunk story but Jamie or Jaime (en espanol) is a better fit for us. He is a dear. Look at that happy dog face.

Jamie is very polite to the cats. His foster Mom told me that her three cats had swatted him and he knew his place. Uma the youngest (not yet a year old) of our rescue cats is really wanting him to play with her but he is still of the mind that cats are to be looked at not touched, although I have caught him following close behind and sniffing mighty close to their kitty rumps. Princess Toadstool (the grand dame 8 year old) throws her weight around, which is considerable, when it is bedtime and Jamie has to wait until she is settled down with Shelley before Jamie can join them in bed. I really had planned on Jamie sleeping with SM and I or perhaps even Ry, but Jamie chose Shelley.

Ellie Mae (5 years old, also a rescue and the one who has been here the longest) has so many personalities that one minute she is asking him to play, then she decides she wants to school him in manners concerning eating protocol, or she is following his lead and waiting for the humans to cross thresholds first. But for the most part, they are as thick as thieves and run and play out back like they've been doing it for years. The two big dogs behind us and the two chihuahuas next door and our two have been having the most interesting dog conversations. But when told to stop, Jamie trots to the back door and is happy to be redirected to people things. I'm loving this.

Jamie knows basic obedience commands and responds really well. I think SM's concerns have been thwarted by the knowledge that in fact Jamie is a "good boy".

We've had a discussion ongoing since we first saw his sweet face. The rescue listed him as an 18 month old Beagle/Dalmation cross. We Cuckoos believe from his body build that he is fact part pitbull and probably healer, or cattledog. He follows his nose everywhere and has his head down doing it, so hound of some kind is in his genes. Whatever he is, he has won us all over and we voted him the perfect fit to round out the number of rescue animals here at Casa de Cuckoo to 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Sunday the NMDOG people will come out, we will sign the paperwork to have his chip and info transferred to us and then it is official, we are his people.

One last thing about this wonderful event in our lives. We were prepared to pay for his adoption and would have been happy to do so, but it seems that an anonymous angel knew how much Ry wanted a dog and paid for everything. Good dog, good people......life is good.

  3. Oh that cute little doggie face! Isn't it strange how animals chose their person? Apparently there is going to be a very happy ending to this doggie tale; kudos to Anonymous for their kindness and generosity.

  4. I am so happy you have both passed muster. This looks like a very happy family addition. A saying I adore is "People who say money can't buy happiness, have never paid an adoption fee." Well technically you haven't but were quite ready too. You will enjoy each other for many, many years. Enjoy.

  5. Heelers are such intelligent, active dogs. Congrats on such a nice fit. Perhaps Shelley sleeps quietest? Or is she the household animal whisperer?

  9. Since my parents called me Jamie (my given name is James) as a child, I think your choice for naming your new pooch Jamie was an outstanding choice.

Jamie looks very happy and comfy and I'm glad to hear he is getting along with everyone. He's very, very lucky to have such a loving family to live with. Thank goodness he was rescued and you all came along to adopt him. Blessings to you and your new family member, Bird

  13. Oh Linda, I am so happy that Jamie is a part of your beautiful family. He is so gorgeous and that face is so sweet, I just want to kiss it! Yes, I can see a perfect match to my Tigerlilly in several ways, including personality. Pittie mixes are fantastic! When hubby brought our baby home, they told him his daddy was a boxer. Honey, I am here to tell you there may be some boxer somewhere in that gene pool, but even my vet says she is a Pit mix, and so very special. People need to realize that these dogs are wonderful family members. So sweet and smart. TN and NM cousins indeed. Warmest hugs to all! Mina
