While waiting for Celebrate Oz - Hues of Oz............

I have been working on my presentation for Hues of Oz and enjoying sewing and piecing fabric. I had some ideas for painting and think I will still get that done as well but since I'm not very mobile minded at the moment, I have settled for some hand sewing, stamping and embroidery.

All this has me looking for more and more Oz signs. And not surprisingly there have been many Oz sightings.

GK and I went to the library to get new cards and on the way out, in the featured book section there was "A Lion Among Men" by Gregory Maguire. It is the third in the series of The Wicked Years.

The first was Wicked which was made into the much loved Broadway musical of the same name. I loved that book. It forever gave me a different perspective into the heart of Elphaba the beautiful green skinned "baddie" of Oz.

The second in The Wicked Years series was "Son of a Witch". And I must say that it took me three times of starting that book to be able to get all the way through it. I was expecting the same level of "ah ha's" that I had gotten in Wicked and was disappointed.

I have not finished reading "A Lion Among Men" but I will give you my opinion on it when I do.

We took the grands out for our Grandday (alias Saturday) adventure. We took them to Route 66 Casino just west of town to go and have lunch at Johnny Rockets, a true 50's diner. We had a blast. The kids got up and jitterbugged and shook their bootees to Fats, Elvis and Jimmy Darren among others. All the way home they sang Johnny be Good and Oh, Baby that's what I Like. As we were leaving the casino, there was our Oz sign. Slot machines The Wizard of Oz. Who knew, right?????

And then there is the number of blogs I have come across while preparing for Hues of Oz that are full time Ozonian sites. I thought you might be interested in seeing one of my favorites. Here's the link to a really good one.

Remember Hues of Oz and spring will arrive on the same day.......imagine the colors.

Well my lovelies, the arm is giving out so I will bid you adieu and report in on any more Oz sightings and going ons as they occur. Be well, stay warm and here's wishing you Smooches and Squoozes. Oma Linda

  4. No way, an Oz slot machine - is this supposed to attract Dorothy's friends - you should have tried it ha,ha I have never been in a casino - they are not too popular round here, but there is one in the city of Moncton, approx 3 hr drive away. Guess I'm just not interested in that. I am looking forward to your colours and what you are doing with all that fabric. Cheers and have a lovely day:)

  5. Oh, I love 50's diners! They are SO fun! Just don't think about the calories though -- yikes, 50's food.

  6. Can't wait, Linda!!! This is going to be so much fun!!!

That "Oz" slot machine will probably take many "Dorothy's" down the "yellow brick road" to losses not winnings. But it is neat, I must admit :))

  8. Okay, I REALLY need to read "Wicked". I think I am the only Oz fan who hasn't!

I would love to have seen the grands doing their booty shaking and heard their beautiful voices belting out "Johnny be Good" and "Oh, Baby that's what I Like". Great taste in music, those loves have. Hugs (and healing to that hand), Mina
